Oiling & Finishing

Oiling & Finishing
Wilkins Wood Workers brings ten years of workshop experience to on-site oiling and finishing across Gloucestershire. All finishes are applied by hand, matched to timber species and intended use — interior tables, oak doors, window frames or external porches. We test patches first, use appropriate natural and hardwax oils, and offer scheduled aftercare visits to keep timber looking and performing well.

How It Works
Site survey & timber assessment
We visit your property to inspect species, condition and exposure — oak door, softwood window or dining table — and recommend the right oil and finish.
Preparation & trial patch
We prepare surfaces, carry out a discreet test patch and agree tone and sheen so you see the finish on your actual timber before work begins.
Hand-applied finish & aftercare
Finishes are applied by hand, left to cure under controlled conditions, and we schedule follow-up visits or advise ongoing maintenance to preserve the finish.
Why Choose us for Oiling & Finishing?
Bespoke, hand-finished results
Every oil and technique is chosen for the timber and its use — from a low-sheen interior hardwax oil for a dining table to a weather-resistant oil for external joinery.
On-site finishing plus aftercare
Work is completed at your property with optional re-oiling and maintenance visits from the same family-run team who installed it, keeping continuity and accountability.
Qualified, experienced and insured
Operated by NVQ-qualified carpenters with ten years’ experience and public liability cover up to £5 million, so projects are carried out safely and to trade standard.
Hand-applied oiling and finishing protects and showcases natural timber grain in a way machines can’t match. At our Gloucestershire farm workshop we work on oak doors, window frames, bespoke tables and site-fit joinery, selecting finishes from natural oils, hardwax oils and specialist exterior oils depending on species and exposure. Every job includes careful surface preparation, sanding to suit the timber’s profile, and a trial patch so you approve the colour and sheen before we proceed.
Practical aftercare included — we offer on-site re-oiling, touch-ups and maintenance advice so your timber ages gracefully. As a family-run team with NVQ-level training and public liability cover up to £5 million, we prioritise durable results and reliable follow-up rather than quick fixes.
